Matariki Whakapiri 2024
We are celebrating Matariki Whakapiri on Rāpare, 27 o te Pipiri, 2024, with our whanaunga and communities from across the Mataatua rohe.
Te Mānuka Tūtahi Marae, 105 Muriwai Drive, Whakatāne
Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi and Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Awa invite you to celebrate Matariki.
The theme this year for the national celebration is Matariki Heri Kai, which comes from the whakatauki: Matariki whetū heri kai. Translated to Matariki the bringer of food, the whakatauki speaks to the bounty of the impending season. So, it is only right that we celebrate the start of a new year by looking forward to a plentiful future with each other at Matariki Whakapiri.
The festival includes kapahaka performances, a variety of stalls and we will end the day with an evening of local entertainment and a night market.
A festival enjoyed by Ngāti Awa and the community. Everyone welcome.
