Te Reo Māori and Mātauranga Māori Courses

Whether you want to engage with your personal communities or learn te reo Māori for work, our Māori language courses offer options for all students.

Te Pōkaitahi Reo (certificate) programmes include courses for complete beginners, through to intermediate and advanced te reo Māori immersion courses. These are all tuition fees-free for eligible students, and have options for learning onsite, online, or through a blended delivery mode.

Some Te Pōkaitahi Reo programmes are taught part-time with 20- or 40-week options, complementing the needs of busy individuals.

We also offer pathways into the higher-level, full-immersion Bachelor of Mātauranga Māori degree programme.

Why learn te reo Māori at Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi?

These programmes provide a pathway to develop skills and knowledge to protect, maintain and enrich mātauranga taonga tuku iho—traditional knowledge, for current and future generations. Some Te Pōkaitahi Reo courses can be accessed online anywhere in Aotearoa - New Zealand, or in person at one of our campuses, or other approved sites such as marae and community venues.

Graduates of these te reo Māori courses will obtain an understanding and awareness of te reo Māori that can be used amongst whānau, hapū, iwi and community as well as in employment.
