Te Pou Oranga Whaiora - Evaluation

Te Pou Oranga Whaiora is the first iwi-led, owned, and operated meth harm reduction strategy in Aotearoa, based in Ōpōtiki and spearheaded by Te Pou Oranga o Whakatōhea.

This initiative aims to provide holistic support to individuals and whānau affected by methamphetamine (meth) harm through a combination of clinical practice, supported accommodation, and kaupapa Māori healing modalities.

Te Werohau is undertaking a Kaupapa Māori evaluation of the programme which aims to assess the effectiveness of Te Pou Oranga Whaiora’s harm reduction strategies in improving the well-being and hauora (health) of those affected by meth harm and their whānau.

Project activities include a formative evaluation that has assessed the initial implementation phase of Te Pou Oranga Whaiora, focusing on establishing the framework for service delivery and engagement with the community. Additionally, process evaluations are planned to be conducted as the programme progresses to measure service delivery processes and emerging outcomes for participants.
