Lecturer - School of Iwi Development
‘Ko te kai he Rongoā, ko te Rongoā he kai’
The School of Iwi Development is seeking a Lecturer with a relevant diploma or higher qualification, adult teaching experience, and practical maara kai, food sovereignty, horticulture, or rongoā knowledge and experience. You will be:
- Passionate about sustainable opportunities for whānau, hapū, and iwi
- Connected to your community, or marae within a specific rohe
In this position you will recruit students for the Certificate of Kai Oranga, level 3, and deliver the programme, ideally available to start mid-May 2026 with the programme due to commence in July, at a venue in your rohe. Position location is negotiable.
The programme has mixed mode delivery including maara kai practicum, online tutorials, classroom activities, eLearning, assessment and evaluation, and Wānanga/marae based noho marae.
Candidates with the following are encouraged to apply:
- · Adult teaching experience, and an adult teaching qualification.
- · A diploma in horticulture or relevant qualification or equivalent relevant work experience in the area of rongoa, horticulture or maara kai.
- · Experience in the delivery of the prescribed Kai Oranga programme.
- · Understanding of, and experience using Māori organic and sustainable gardening and food growing practice.
- · Knowledge of Hua Parakore principles.
- · Networks with one or more marae, and with iwi, hapū, whanau and/or community groups.
Knowledge of tikanga Māori, and at least intermediate level Te Reo Māori skills.
